Israel Launches Ofek 19 Spy Satellite to Expand Middle East Surveillance
Israel has expanded its space-based surveillance capabilities with the launch of the Ofek 19 spy satellite.
Built by Israel Aerospace Industries, the satellite features advanced synthetic aperture radar technology capable of providing high-resolution images in all weather conditions and at any time of day.
Military leaders say Ofek 19 strengthens Israel’s ability to maintain persistent monitoring across the Middle East, including Iran, Lebanon, Syria, and other areas of concern.
During a 12-day conflict with Iran earlier this year, Israeli satellites reportedly captured more than 12,000 images that guided strikes, highlighting the role of space assets in modern warfare.
The Ofek program dates back to 1988, when Israel joined the small group of nations capable of independently launching and operating reconnaissance satellites. Over the years, it has built a fleet of observation systems that reinforce both its defense strategy and its aerospace industry, which exports technology globally.
The launch location for Ofek 19 was not disclosed, but the satellite has already begun testing in orbit. Officials say it will be critical to maintaining Israel’s aerial and ground superiority in the years ahead.
