Iraq’s Water Reserves Hit An 80-Year Low

 Iraq faces its lowest water reserves in 80 years after a dry rainy season, receiving less than 40% of its Tigris and Euphrates share due to climate change, drought, rising temperatures, and upstream dams in Iran and Turkiye.

With just 10 billion cubic meters of water—down from 18 billion expected—farmers are abandoning fields and the government is scaling back cultivation to prioritize drinking supplies.
