US and Yemen’s Houthis agree a ceasefire

US President Donald Trump announced that Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis agreed to suspend attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

In return, the US administration will pause near-daily air and naval operations dubbed “Rough Rider,” which had struck over 1,000 Houthi missile and drone sites since mid-March.

Though lauded by Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt as a “Massive WIN” restoring freedom of navigation through the Suez Canal route, the campaign has drained US munitions, fuel, and resources—and cost seven $30 million Reaper drones plus two F/A-18 fighters lost at sea.
