Gunman Kills 4 Inside Manhattan Skyscraper Before Taking Own Life
A deadly shooting inside a high-rise building on Park Avenue shocked New York City on Monday evening. The gunman, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura from Las Vegas, opened fire inside a Manhattan skyscraper that houses the headquarters of the NFL, along with offices for Blackstone, JPMorgan Chase, and other major financial firms.
Four people were killed, including Didarul Islam, an off-duty NYPD officer working a private security shift. A fifth victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Authorities say Tamura drove cross-country before the attack, entered the lobby of the building during evening rush hour, and began shooting. He later reached the 33rd floor and turned the weapon on himself.
Police found weapons and personal belongings in his parked BMW nearby. Officials confirm the shooter acted alone and had a documented history of mental illness. The motive remains under investigation.
Employees inside were told to shelter in place as law enforcement secured the scene. This incident marks the 254th mass shooting in the U.S. this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive.
