Griffith Says Israeli–Lebanese Meeting Could Mark Step Toward Normalization
Joel Griffith says he is hopeful that the meeting between Israeli and Lebanese delegations could lead to progress toward normalization after decades without official engagement. He notes Israel’s long history of pursuing diplomacy with its neighbors and says the major barrier to peace has been Hezbollah, backed by Iran. Griffith argues that fully disarming Hezbollah is essential and says that if Lebanon is unable or unwilling to act, the United States should continue supporting Israel in its efforts to neutralize the group.
