Grammys Jokes Draw a Presidential Response
Trevor Noah returned to host the Grammy Awards for the sixth and final time, opening the ceremony with a monologue largely focused on pop culture and the music industry.
While the early portion of the broadcast avoided extended political commentary, several remarks made later in the show drew wider attention.
One joke referenced rapper Nicki Minaj, who was absent from the ceremony and has recently appeared publicly with U.S. President Donald Trump. Additional comments followed later in the broadcast after Billie Eilish won song of the year, when Noah made a remark involving Trump, Greenland, Epstein’s island, and former President Bill Clinton.
The joke prompted a strong reaction from the audience inside the arena and quickly circulated online.
Following the broadcast, Trump responded publicly on Truth Social, disputing the remark and threatening legal action. The exchange became one of the most widely discussed moments of the ceremony beyond the awards themselves.
The Recording Academy had announced less than three weeks earlier that Noah would host the Grammys one final time, citing his record tenure as emcee. Only singer Andy Williams has hosted the ceremony more often. Noah closed the show by reiterating that this would be his last year as host.
