Google Issues a Big Warning About Free Wi-Fi

Google has issued a major warning urging smartphone users to be cautious about connecting to public Wi-Fi networks in places like cafés, airports, and hotels.

According to its latest Android: Behind the Screen report, open networks are becoming a top entry point for cybercriminals who intercept sensitive data, including financial information and private communications.

The report highlights a surge in mobile-based scams, with global losses exceeding $400 billion in the past year.

Google explains that modern scams are run by sophisticated, structured networks that operate like businesses — buying stolen numbers, using phishing platforms, and exploiting psychological tactics such as fear and urgency.

The tech giant’s advice: avoid public Wi-Fi whenever possible, especially for online banking or shopping, disable automatic connections, verify network authenticity, and maintain regular software updates.
