Google Bets $15B on India for Its Largest AI Hub Outside U.S.

Google’s parent company, Alphabet, has announced a $15 billion investment to establish a major AI data hub in Visakhapatnam, in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

The project, to be completed over five years, will be Google’s largest AI infrastructure site outside the United States and part of a global network spanning 12 countries.

India’s low data costs, expanding internet user base, and pro-investment policies have made it an attractive destination for data centre development. The new hub will integrate AI and cloud computing infrastructure with renewable energy systems and an upgraded fibre-optic network to enhance connectivity and sustainability.

The initiative aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader digital strategy, which aims to reach 6 gigawatts of data centre capacity by 2029.

Local authorities have supported the project by offering subsidised land and electricity to global investors. For Google, this investment deepens its presence in one of the world’s fastest-growing digital economies and strengthens its AI ecosystem across Asia.
