The Golconda Blue: World’s Largest Vivid Blue Diamond Heads to Auction
Christie’s has showed the Golconda Blue, the largest fancy vivid blue diamond ever to appear at auction.
Weighing 23.24 carats, the pear-shaped gem is set in a ring designed by JAR and is expected to sell for $35 million to $50 million at the Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva on May 14.
Mined over 300 years ago in Golconda, India, the diamond is known for its rare intensity of color and exceptional clarity. Classified as a “fancy vivid blue” by the Gemological Institute of America, it represents the highest tier of natural blue diamonds.
This marks the first time in over a century that the Golconda Blue is being up for sale, making it a historic moment for collectors and the global jewelry market.
