Gas Workers Find 1,000-Year-Old Mummy Beneath Lima’s Streets
Peruvian gas workers in Lima uncovered a 1,000-year-old mummy while installing pipes in the city’s Puente Piedra district.
The remains, believed to belong to a young boy aged 10 to 15, were found in a sitting position, wrapped in a burial shroud, alongside ceramic objects from the pre-Inca Chancay culture, which thrived between the 11th and 15th centuries.
The find highlights Lima’s rich archaeological landscape, with over 500 ancient sites still being uncovered.
