Former Hollywood Powerhouse Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty
Harvey Weinstein, once one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood, has been found guilty on one count of sexual assault in a New York retrial. The case revisited allegations first brought to trial in 2020, when Weinstein was convicted of raping and assaulting two women.
That verdict was overturned in 2024 by New York’s highest court, citing procedural errors, prompting the new trial.
In this retrial, Weinstein was convicted of assaulting former production assistant Miriam Haley in 2006. He was acquitted of a separate charge, while a third count remains undecided as jury deliberations continue. Weinstein has denied all allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Weinstein remains in prison due to a separate 16-year sentence issued in California in 2022 for rape. Since 2017, more than 100 women have accused him of sexual misconduct, helping to spark the global #MeToo movement.
Weinstein co-founded Miramax and later The Weinstein Company, producing films like Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare in Love. Today, he stands as one of the most prominent figures held accountable during a broader reckoning over abuse in the entertainment industry.
