Experts Double Down: Meat Should Be Minimal in a Healthy Diet

International experts are once again urging a shift toward a predominantly plant-based diet, emphasizing that red meat and processed meat should play only a very minor role in daily meals.

In a new report published by The Lancet, researchers reaffirm their 2019 “planetary health diet” recommendations, despite criticism from the food industry at the time.

The updated guidelines suggest limiting beef, pork, and lamb consumption to just 15 grams per day, while prioritizing vegetables, fruits, grains, and moderate portions of dairy, poultry, and seafood.

Experts argue that this diet is strongly associated with lower risks of chronic disease, reduced mortality rates, and better environmental sustainability, making it both a health and climate strategy.
