ESPN Goes Beyond Cable: Disney Unveils $30 Streaming App
Disney’s ESPN has officially stepped into the streaming era with the launch of a new app designed to bring its full range of sports coverage to fans beyond traditional cable television.
Priced at $30 per month, the app debuts with a bundle that includes ad-supported versions of Disney+ and Hulu, aiming to attract millions of sports fans who have cut the cord in recent years.
Unlike the limited ESPN+ app introduced in 2018, this new platform offers a far more expansive service, delivering over 47,000 live events each year across the NFL, NBA, WNBA, NHL, college football, golf, tennis, and more.
Fans can also customize their experience by selecting favorite teams and sports, generating a personalized version of the iconic “SportsCenter” show, narrated with the voices of ESPN anchors through AI technology.
Additional features include “Verts,” a vertical-video highlight feed tailored for mobile users, fantasy sports integration, and an ESPN Bet tab for those with linked accounts.
Disney CEO Bob Iger described the platform as “a sports fan’s dream,” while analysts see it as a major step in Disney’s pivot to streaming, though not a full replacement for pay TV, which still anchors ESPN’s revenue base.
