Erbil Unveils Iraq’s Largest Water Project
The Kurdistan Region has launched its largest-ever water infrastructure project, aiming to secure Erbil’s water supply for the next 30 years.
Inaugurated by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, the Emergency Rapid Water Supply Project produces up to 4.8 million cubic meters of water daily and spans 600 kilometers of pipeline.
The initiative responds to growing concerns over climate change, groundwater depletion, and rapid urban growth.
With Iraq’s first zero-loss recycling system and over 1,000 wells closed, the $480 million project is a milestone in sustainable water management.
