Beloved Elmo Account Hacked with Antisemitic Posts
On Sunday, the official X account of beloved Sesame Street character Elmo was hacked, resulting in a stream of six disturbing posts containing antisemitic slurs, conspiracy theories, and threats of violence.
The posts falsely linked former President Donald Trump to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and invoked the late Jeffrey Epstein. One post read “Elmo says all Jews should die,” while others referred to Trump as a “puppet” and used explicit language.
Sesame Workshop swiftly issued a statement confirming that the account was compromised and condemned the posts as “disgusting” and “racist.” All six tweets were deleted within hours, and by Monday morning, Elmo’s account had gone dark.
The incident sparked widespread outrage and renewed attention on X’s platform vulnerabilities and the rising volume of hate speech in public-facing accounts.
Elmo, known for messages of joy and kindness, is not typically associated with political or extremist content. The hack came just months ahead of Sesame Street’s upcoming launch on Netflix, following its exit from Warner Bros. Discovery.
