Egypt Uncovers 2,000-Year-Old Sunken City
Egyptian authorities revealed parts of a sunken city near Abu Qir, including buildings, temples, water cisterns, royal statues, and a commercial ship. The city, dating to the Roman era and possibly an extension of Canopus, was submerged by earthquakes and rising seas. Excavations recovered artifacts including a sphinx of Ramses II, but many remain underwater due to international rules. Alexandria continues to face rising sea levels, with the UN predicting one-third of the city could be submerged by 2050.
