Data of 70,000 Discord users potentially exposed in cyberattack

Discord, one of the world’s largest communication platforms with over 200 million users, is investigating a data breach that may have exposed official ID photos, partial credit card details, and customer service messages from around 70,000 users.

The company confirmed that the breach originated from a third-party verification vendor used to confirm users’ ages, rather than from Discord’s own systems. While no passwords, full credit card numbers, or direct chat logs were compromised, the leak has reignited concerns about how user data is handled by major tech firms and their partners.

Discord says affected users have been notified, access to the compromised vendor has been revoked, and law enforcement has been contacted.

The platform, initially created for gamers but now home to diverse online communities, has previously faced scrutiny over content moderation and privacy safeguards.
