Global Math Rankings: Where Countries’ Teens Stand Against the World

A new global ranking based on the OECD’s 2022 PISA assessment reveals which countries have the strongest math skills among 15-16-year-old students, a key indicator for future economic innovation and competitiveness.

The data shows East Asian economies dominating the top, with Singapore leading at an average score of 575, followed by Macau, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, and South Korea. In Europe, Estonia emerges as the regional leader, with Switzerland, the Netherlands, and a cluster of countries including Ireland and Denmark performing strongly just above the OECD average of 472.

Canada stands out as North America’s top performer at 9th place globally, while the United States scores 465, falling below the international average and highlighting a competitive gap, with countries from Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America absent from the top-tier list.
