Could Tehran Run Dry Within Months?
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned Thursday that Tehran’s water reservoirs could run dry by October unless citizens drastically reduce their water use. With levels at some of the lowest in a century and electricity already being rationed, officials are urging people to install water tanks at home. However, critics argue that mismanaged agricultural practices, which consume over 86% of the country’s water, are being ignored as the real culprit. Hydroelectric facilities are also at risk of shutting down as water levels drop further.
