Appeals Court Revives Trump’s Tariffs After Trade Court Block

A federal appeals court has reinstated President Trump’s broad “Liberation Day” tariffs just one day after the US Court of International Trade blocked them for exceeding executive authority.

The Appeals Court provided no reasoning but set deadlines—plaintiffs by June 5 and the administration by June 9—to argue their positions.

The trade court decision threatened levies on imports from Canada, Mexico, China, and most trading partners tied to alleged fentanyl trafficking.

Administration officials remain undeterred, vowing to appeal or use alternate powers as high-stakes trade talks with Japan and India proceed.
