No More Sharing: Amazon Prime Invitee Program Shuts Down

Amazon is phasing out a popular Prime feature that allowed members to share free shipping benefits with people outside their household.

The company confirmed it will discontinue the Prime Invitee Program on October 1, 2025, ending a perk that had been available since 2009. Under the program, Prime members could extend fast, free delivery to friends or relatives at different addresses.

In its place, Amazon will steer customers toward Amazon Family, which lets members share benefits, including shipping, Prime Video, and exclusive deals, but only with household members at the same address.

The change comes as Amazon faces pressure to boost Prime subscriptions after U.S. signups ahead of Prime Day reportedly fell short of internal targets. Still, the company maintains that Prime membership is growing worldwide, citing record-breaking sign-ups during July’s Prime Day sale.

By tightening sharing rules, Amazon may push more users to purchase their own Prime subscriptions, underscoring how the company is adapting its strategy while keeping Prime at the center of its e-commerce ecosystem.
