ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live After Kirk Remarks
ABC has indefinitely suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live after host Jimmy Kimmel made pointed remarks about the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
During his Monday monologue, Kimmel accused “MAGA Republicans” of twisting the tragedy for political gain, prompting swift backlash.
Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chair Brendan Carr publicly urged broadcasters to stop airing the show, suggesting penalties could follow if “distorted comment” became a pattern.
Nexstar Media Group quickly dropped Kimmel from 32 stations, and Sinclair said it would only resume airing if Kimmel apologized. ABC then confirmed the program would be “preempted indefinitely.”
President Trump celebrated the move on Truth Social, praising ABC’s “courage” and calling on NBC to fire fellow late-night hosts Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers.
Democrats and free-speech advocates condemned the suspension, warning that government threats against media outlets undermine constitutional protections and risk silencing dissent.
