Inside the $800M U.S. Open Upgrade: A Grand Slam Reinvented

The U.S. Open is about to get a major upgrade. The USTA has announced an $800 million renovation plan that will completely modernize the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens, New York, by 2027.

The centerpiece of the transformation is Arthur Ashe Stadium, the world’s largest tennis venue, which will gain 2,000 new courtside seats, luxury suite levels, and a new grand entrance. A $250 million player performance center will offer spa-like locker rooms, upgraded dining, and indoor/outdoor fitness areas.

This self-funded investment, the largest in U.S. Open history, comes on the heels of a 2018 overhaul that added the 14,000-seat Louis Armstrong Stadium. With record attendance of over 1 million in 2024 and a 15-day main draw debuting in 2025, the USTA is betting big on the future.

The renovations aim to enhance both player comfort and fan experience without disrupting upcoming tournaments
