$190K Penalty After Shakira’s Medical Info Was Exposed in Peru
Shakira’s recent medical emergency in Lima has taken a legal turn. Peru’s National Superintendency of Health (SuSalud) has fined Clínica Delgado-Auna approximately $190,000 for violating the Colombian pop star’s medical privacy.
The incident traces back to February 2025, when Shakira, then hospitalized with abdominal pain, had to cancel a concert. Within days, confidential details about her condition began to circulate online.
Following a five-month investigation, authorities concluded the clinic breached national health data laws by exposing the 48-year-old singer’s private information. Under Peruvian law, leaking patient medical records is considered a serious violation, with potential fines reaching $400,000.
While the clinic won’t be shut down, it was reminded of its legal duty to safeguard patients’ records. The facility had earlier stated that it took disciplinary action against staff found responsible for the leak.
