1.7 Million Eggs Pulled from Shelves Amid Salmonella Outbreak in US

A salmonella outbreak linked to 1.7 million dozen brown cage-free and organic eggs has sickened over 70 people across seven states in the United States, with 21 hospitalizations but no fatalities reported.

The August Egg Company voluntarily recalled the eggs sold at major retailers like Walmart, Safeway, Ralphs, and FoodMaxx, and has diverted all shell eggs to a pasteurization facility to eliminate pathogens.

The FDA and CDC are advising consumers and businesses to discard or return any recalled eggs to their point of purchase.

Meanwhile, the company’s ongoing internal safety review aims to implement corrective measures and prevent future contamination events.
