What Did Trump Offer Maduro During Their Call?
Rising tensions between the United States and Venezuela intensified after President Donald Trump confirmed he recently spoke with Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, describing the exchange simply as “a phone call.”
The conversation came amid a heavy U.S. military buildup in the Caribbean, Washington’s designation of an alleged Maduro-linked drug cartel as a terrorist group, and Caracas’ claim that regime change is the true objective.
Reports from major U.S. outlets suggest Trump and Maduro discussed the possibility of a meeting and even conditions of amnesty should Maduro step down, while U.S. lawmakers claim Washington has offered him safe passage out of the country.
Venezuela denies all drug-cartel accusations, insisting they are politically motivated. With Trump warning that Venezuelan airspace is “closed” and tougher land actions may be coming soon, the standoff has entered one of its most volatile phases.
