US Senator Graham to Receive Statue in Kurdistan Region
US Senator Lindsey Graham is being honored with a statue in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, recognizing his years of advocacy for Kurdish forces, particularly in northeast Syria.
Erbil Governor Omed Xoshnaw announced the tribute to a Kurdish media outlet, though details on the design, location, and timeline remain unclear.
Graham, a Republican from South Carolina, has been one of the most vocal American lawmakers defending Kurdish interests, repeatedly warning that abandoning the Kurds after their pivotal role in defeating ISIS would be a “disgrace” for the United States.
Along with Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal, he introduced the “Save the Kurds Act,” legislation that would impose sanctions on Syrian government officials supporting attacks on Kurds.
Graham has emphasized that Kurdish fighters carried much of the burden against the extremist group and that turning away from them now would damage America’s moral standing.
The planned statue is a rare honor for a foreign political figure in the Kurdistan Region and symbolizes the strong bond between Kurdish leaders and their US allies.
