US Jet Fuel: Britain’s New Lifeline
The United Kingdom has emerged as the leading global destination for United States jet fuel exports as the aviation sector struggles to fill the massive supply gap created by the conflict in Iran and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to data from the London Stock Exchange Group and Vortexa, US-sourced fuel is on track to account for 50% of the UK’s imports in early April 2026, a staggering increase from the 7% average seen in 2025. This structural shift comes as President Donald Trump urges allies to decrease their dependence on Middle Eastern energy and buy American.
Despite a recent two-week ceasefire, fuel prices remain volatile and inventories are tight, with experts warning that while US exports are surging, they can only replace about half of the lost Middle Eastern volume. This leaves Europe in a fierce bidding war with Asia to secure enough fuel to avoid widespread flight cancellations during the peak summer travel season.
