UK Town Drops Prince Andrew From Street Name After Epstein Fallout

A council in Northern Ireland has voted unanimously to remove Prince Andrew’s name from a main street in Carrickfergus, becoming the first local authority in the UK to take such a step after King Charles III stripped his brother of royal roles due to ties with Jeffrey Epstein.

The council voted unanimously on Monday to rename a main road in the town, 10 miles (16 kilometres) northeast of Belfast, called Prince Andrew Way.

Officials say “Prince Andrew Way” no longer reflects the values of the community, and many residents agree, with some arguing the decision should have come years earlier.

The move follows ongoing public backlash, including vandalism of Andrew’s nameplate, and the council is now considering new names honoring other royals such as Princess Catherine or Queen Elizabeth II.

The final decision will follow a public consultation in the coming months.

Several town councils in England have said they are considering such a move, though none have voted on it yet.
