UAE Pushes for Force to Reopen Hormuz Strait

The United Arab Emirates has reportedly urged the United States and international powers to form a military coalition to forcefully reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which remains under a tightening Iranian blockade. According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, the UAE is seeking a UN Security Council resolution to authorize the operation and has expressed a willingness to contribute its own military assets to the effort. This aggressive stance follows a series of devastating Iranian strikes across the Gulf, including drone attacks on fuel infrastructure in Kuwait and Bahrain. While regional allies originally expressed concern over the lack of notice regarding the U.S.-Israeli campaign in early 2026, they are now privately advocating for the mission to expand until there is a fundamental change in the Iranian leadership. In response, the U.S. has deployed Marines to the region, signaling that a ground-based intervention to secure the vital waterway may be imminent.
