U.S. Rapper Wiz Khalifa Sentenced to 9 Months in Romanian Prison
American rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a Romanian court for drug possession, stemming from an incident in July 2024 where he was allegedly caught smoking cannabis on stage at the Beach, Please! Festival.
Prosecutors stated he was in possession of over 18 grams of cannabis, leading to his conviction for illegal possession for personal use.
This final ruling comes after a lower court initially issued only a fine of approximately $830, which prosecutors successfully appealed, seeking and obtaining a stricter sentence reflective of Romania’s harsh drug laws, which can mandate prison time for personal-use possession.
It remains uncertain whether Romanian authorities will pursue extradition for the US citizen, who rose to fame with hits like “Young, Wild & Free.”
