U.S. Marines Weigh Seizing Islands in Strait of Hormuz

The 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, a self-sufficient force of 2,200 U.S. Marines, is currently steaming toward the Middle East aboard the USS Tripoli with a bold strategic objective.

According to intelligence reports, the U.S. is considering a plan to seize several Iranian-controlled islands in the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz to guarantee maritime safety.

The primary target is Kharg Island, a 25-square-kilometer rock that handles 90% of Iran’s crude oil exports.

Military experts suggest that occupying these islands—rather than destroying their infrastructure—provides the U.S. with immense diplomatic leverage while preventing a total collapse of the global energy market.

By deploying to islands like Qeshm, Kish, and Hormuz instead of the mainland, the U.S. can dismantle Iranian missile and drone launch sites while technically avoiding a full-scale ground invasion of Iranian soil.
