A dangerous winter blizzard is slamming the Northeast, shutting down major I-95 corridor cities from Washington to New York to Boston. Winds reaching 70 miles per hour, snowfall rates exceeding two inches per hour, more than 5,000 flight cancellations, and widespread power outages have prompted states of emergency and travel bans across the region. At the White House, President Trump met with families of Americans killed by undocumented immigrants as part of an immigration enforcement push ahead of tomorrow night’s State of the Union address, where border security and the economy are expected to take center stage. In Mexico, one of the country’s most wanted cartel leaders, known as El Mencho, was killed Sunday, triggering violent retaliation, road blockades, and U.S. shelter-in-place alerts for American tourists in the Jalisco region and the resort city of Puerto Vallarta. Meanwhile, new U.S.–Iran nuclear talks are set to begin Thursday amid rising military tensions and warnings from President Trump of possible targeted strikes if diplomacy fails.
