Your Final Playlist? Spotify Tests Music for the Afterlife

Spotify has teamed up with beverage brand Liquid Death to launch what they describe as the world’s first music-streaming urn — a Bluetooth speaker designed in the shape of a traditional cremation urn.

The product, called the Eternal Playlist Urn, is positioned as a limited-edition collector’s item that blends design, technology and dark humor around the idea that music can accompany people beyond life.

Only 150 units were produced in the United States, priced at $495 before taxes. The urn measures roughly 7 by 11 inches and features a wireless speaker embedded in the lid, allowing users to stream playlists directly from any Bluetooth-enabled device.

Spotify says the design is intentionally minimal and suitable for display at home or in memorial spaces.

Alongside the hardware, Spotify introduced an Eternal Playlist Generator that asks users questions about their mood, personality and musical taste to create a personalized “afterlife soundtrack.”

The playlist can be shared digitally or synced to the urn’s speaker.
