Rubio Speaks on Iran Regime, Operation Epic Fury
Marco Rubio spoke about Iran’s leadership and the ongoing U.S. military campaign known as Operation Epic Fury during remarks at the U.S. Hostage and Wrongful Detainee flag-raising ceremony at the United States Department of State in Washington.
Rubio described Iran’s clerical government as a major threat to the region and the world, accusing the regime of using missiles and one-way attack drones to target neighboring countries, energy infrastructure and civilian populations.
The secretary of state said the objective of Operation Epic Fury is to destroy Iran’s ability to carry out those attacks, particularly through its missile and drone capabilities. U.S. officials say the campaign is focused on degrading Iran’s ability to manufacture and launch ballistic missiles and attack drones.
The United States and Israel launched the operation earlier this year as tensions with Iran escalated across the Middle East. The conflict has involved large-scale strikes on military targets and has raised concerns about a wider regional war.
Rubio praised U.S. service members involved in the campaign, saying the military is conducting what he described as a precise and sustained operation aimed at reducing the threat posed by the Iranian regime.
