Rubio on U.S. Evacuation Efforts for Americans in Middle East

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio outlined U.S. evacuation efforts for Americans stranded in the Middle East as conflict linked to Iran continues to disrupt travel and regional security.

Speaking to reporters, Rubio urged U.S. citizens in the region to register immediately with the State Department, stressing that officials must have accurate contact information in order to coordinate assistance.

Airspace closures, security threats, and limited commercial flight availability have left some Americans without reliable routes home. Rubio said evacuation pathways could include charter flights, U.S. military transport aircraft, expanded commercial options, and in certain cases land routes to neighboring countries with operating airports.

He emphasized that coordination begins with registration, calling on media outlets to publicize official State Department phone numbers and the emergency website so Americans can be reached as options become available.

“It all starts by knowing you’re there,” Rubio said, underscoring the urgency for Americans to make contact.
