Mexico’s president backs calls for more BTS concerts
BTS’s return to the global stage has ignited fan excitement worldwide, but in Mexico, the response has reached an unexpected level: the presidency.
After tickets for the K-pop group’s upcoming Mexico City concerts sold out almost immediately, the issue made its way into President Claudia Sheinbaum’s daily news briefing, where she addressed the overwhelming demand from fans known as ARMY.
During the briefing, Sheinbaum confirmed that she had written directly to South Korea’s prime minister to advocate for additional BTS concert dates in Mexico.
While she noted that no response had yet been received, she expressed hope that the request would be considered. The president also said she had contacted concert organizers to explore the possibility of expanding the schedule, though the promoter has stated that adding dates is not currently feasible.
BTS is scheduled to perform three shows at Mexico City’s GNP Seguros Stadium in May, marking the group’s first major tour following a nearly four-year hiatus during which members completed mandatory military service in South Korea. The band is also preparing to release a new album as part of its global comeback.
Mexico has increasingly become a key destination for major international tours, and the president’s involvement highlights both the cultural impact of BTS and the growing influence of fan communities.
