Mexican Troops Kill Cartel Leader “El Mencho” in Jalisco Raid

Mexican troops killed cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” during a military raid in Jalisco. He led the powerful Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación and had a $15 million U.S. bounty on his head. Officials say he died from wounds sustained in a firefight during the operation.

In response, cartel gunmen launched retaliatory attacks, setting up roadblocks, starting fires, and opening fire across multiple states. At least 14 people were killed as violence spread nationwide. Authorities urged residents to stay indoors, while the U.S. government issued shelter-in-place alerts for Americans in several Mexican states.

Tourists in Puerto Vallarta were advised to remain inside hotels and avoid travel. Airlines suspended flights and issued travel waivers to affected cities. Officials warn that his death could trigger a violent cartel power struggle.
