Sen. John Kennedy Reacts to President’s State of the Union Address
U.S. Senator John Kennedy shared his reaction following President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, saying he hopes the president struck an appropriate balance between domestic and foreign policy issues.
Kennedy said the president devoted significant time to concerns facing American families, particularly the cost of living. He noted that housing and health care were addressed, along with several new legislative initiatives proposed for congressional consideration.
The senator said he would need to review the details of those proposals, adding that while they sounded appealing, he believes it is important to examine the full legislative text.
Kennedy also expressed skepticism about the prospects for bipartisan support, suggesting that many of the initiatives may need to move through the budget reconciliation process. He said he respects his Democratic colleagues but does not anticipate broad bipartisan backing.
The senator further commented on what he described as tense moments in the chamber during the address.
