Sen. Jeanne Shaheen Urges Lebanon to Complete Reforms and Rein in Armed Groups

Senator Jeanne Shaheen, Vice Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and a member of the Intelligence Committee, says Lebanon must advance long-promised reforms — including banking restructuring and passage of the gap law. She adds that Lebanese leaders have already committed to reducing the influence of armed factions operating outside the state’s control, noting that Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri must follow through. Shaheen says the United States should support Lebanon’s reform efforts “in every way we can.”
