Is Pizza Hut Next to Go? Yum! Brands Weighs a Major Shake-Up
Pizza Hut, once the centerpiece of family pizza nights across America, may soon have a new owner. Yum! Brands announced a formal review of “strategic options” for the chain, including the possibility of a full or partial sale.
The decision comes as Pizza Hut struggles to keep pace with delivery-first rivals like Domino’s and Papa John’s while Yum!’s other brands—Taco Bell and KFC—continue to post strong gains.
In the third quarter of 2025, Pizza Hut sales dropped 2 percent globally and 7 percent in the U.S., compared with 9 percent growth at Taco Bell and 6 percent at KFC. Analysts say Pizza Hut’s dine-in legacy model has failed to adapt to a market now dominated by digital orders and quick service.
Yum! has hired Goldman Sachs and Barclays to advise on the review but emphasized that no timeline or decision has been set. The company, which operates nearly 20,000 Pizza Hut restaurants worldwide, insists the brand remains “beloved” and profitable in key international markets.
Whether through a sale, restructuring, or brand overhaul, Yum!’s next move could redefine the pizza industry and reshape one of America’s most recognizable restaurant names.
