Iran’s New Supreme Leader
Tim Constantine reports: Iran has named a new supreme leader following the death of longtime leader Ali Khamenei. Iranian officials announced that his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, will take over the role.
The 56-year-old cleric was chosen by Iran’s Assembly of Experts, the body responsible for selecting the country’s highest authority. His appointment comes just days after his father was killed during U.S. and Israeli strikes amid the ongoing war.
Constantine says the leadership change may not bring major policy shifts, noting Mojtaba Khamenei spent decades working closely inside his father’s political and security apparatus. Analysts say his selection signals continuity in Iran’s leadership during a period of escalating conflict in the region.
