ICE Launches ‘Operation Midway Blitz’ in Chicago
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has begun an enforcement action in Chicago and across Illinois, known as Operation Midway Blitz.
The initiative is described by ICE as an “operational surge” designed to arrest undocumented migrants, particularly those with criminal records. Officials framed the move as a response to local and state “sanctuary” policies, which limit cooperation with federal immigration authorities.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Department of Justice (DOJ), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are expected to join ICE in expanding the operation.
The action has drawn criticism within Illinois. Governor J.B. Pritzker said he was not informed in advance. The move comes after weeks of speculation that Trump might send National Guard troops or federal officers to Chicago as part of his broader immigration and crime agenda.
Parallel enforcement actions have also launched in other cities, including Boston.
