Google’s Pomelli Raises Questions About Replacing Creative Work

Google has released an experimental artificial intelligence marketing tool called Pomelli, developed in collaboration with Google Labs and DeepMind.

The feature is designed to help small and medium-sized businesses generate professional marketing materials without the need for traditional production teams.

Pomelli works by analyzing a company’s website to understand its brand identity, including tone of voice, typography, imagery and color palette. Based on that information, the system produces campaign ideas, social media assets and product visuals, including studio-style photoshoots that appear tailored to the brand.

The tool aims to make marketing production faster and more scalable, particularly for businesses that may not have the resources for professional creative teams.

Users can adjust the generated assets before downloading and publishing them across digital platforms.

Pomelli is currently available on a limited basis through Google Labs in select English-speaking regions including the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

Online reactions have highlighted both the potential benefits and broader implications of the technology. While some users view AI-generated marketing as a way to lower barriers for small businesses, others have raised questions about how automation could affect designers, photographers and other creative professionals as AI tools continue expanding across the industry.
