George Clooney Calls Harris Replacing Biden a ‘Mistake’ on CBS
On November 2, 2025, in a sit-down interview on CBS Sunday Morning, actor and prominent Democratic donor George Clooney reiterated his view that the Democratic Party made a critical error by replacing Joe Biden with Vice President Kamala Harris as their 2024 nominee.
Clooney, who authored a high-profile op-ed in The New York Times in July 2024 titled “I Love Joe Biden. But We Need a New Nominee,” said he still stands by his decision to encourage a leadership change.
He told CBS that Harris faced a nearly impossible task, having to “run against her own record,” and that the absence of a primary left the party with “no battle-tested candidate.”
While Clooney insisted he has no regrets about speaking out, his comments came just weeks after Hunter Biden lashed out at him for questioning the former president’s fitness for office.
Clooney’s remarks have reopened internal debate within the Democratic Party about candidate selection, intra-party democracy, and strategic messaging ahead of future elections.
