Why George Clooney Escaped Hollywood to Protect His Children

After decades as one of Hollywood’s most recognizable faces, George Clooney has chosen a quieter life for his family—away from flashing cameras and the constant hum of celebrity culture.

In a new interview with Esquire, the Oscar-winning actor reflected on his decision to leave Los Angeles and raise his 8-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, on a farm in France with his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney.

Clooney said he was deeply concerned about exposing his children to Hollywood’s fame-driven environment, fearing it would rob them of a normal upbringing and privacy.

In France, the Clooneys have found a sense of peace—where fame carries little weight and life moves at a slower, more grounded pace.

The actor also reflected on the lessons he learned from becoming famous later in life, crediting that timing for helping him avoid the pitfalls that often accompany early stardom.

Now 64, Clooney says his focus is less on films and awards, and more on creating a safe, balanced environment for his children—far removed from the world that made him famous.
