Fashion’s Biggest Night Gets a Power Trio: Beyoncé, Kidman and Williams

Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams have been named co-chairs of the 2026 Met Gala, joining longtime fashion powerbroker Anna Wintour for the Costume Institute’s annual benefit.

The event, set for May 4, 2026, will mark Beyoncé’s first appearance at the Met Gala since 2016, ending a nearly ten-year hiatus from fashion’s most watched red carpet. Beyoncé first attended the gala in 2008 and previously served as an honorary chair in 2013, delivering some of the event’s most memorable looks before stepping back in recent years due to pregnancy, touring schedules and personal commitments.

Nicole Kidman returns as a Met Gala co-chair for the third time, having previously held the role in 2003 and 2005, while Venus Williams will co-chair the event for the first time, following a year that saw her return to competitive tennis at age 45.

The announcement comes as Anna Wintour, who recently stepped down as American Vogue editor-in-chief, continues to oversee the gala as Condé Nast’s global editorial director.

The Met has also revealed the 2026 exhibition theme, “Costume Art,” which will explore the relationship between clothing and the body through sections such as “Aging Body,” “Pregnant Body” and “Naked Body.”

The exhibition will debut in the museum’s newly expanded Condé M. Nast Galleries, setting the stage for a closely watched night that blends fashion, celebrity and cultural commentary.
