Clashes Escalate in Syria’s Kurdish Neighborhoods, Thousands Flee

For the third consecutive day, violent clashes continue between Syrian government forces and the Kurdish Internal Security Forces (Asayish), particularly in the Kurdish neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh in the city of Aleppo, highlighting the escalating instability in northern Syria.

The confrontations began in the morning when government-affiliated armed groups launched a coordinated attack using multiple vehicles loaded with heavy weapons, which was promptly repelled by the Asayish forces, resulting in the destruction of four government vehicles and an unspecified number of casualties.

Despite successfully thwarting the raid, the ongoing exchange of shelling, gunfire, and deployment of armored vehicles continues to threaten the safety of civilians, prompting dozens of families to abandon their homes with little more than what they could carry.

The persistent bombardment has exacerbated fears of displacement, injury, and civilian suffering in the already fragile region.

Both sides have issued accusations while attempts at negotiations remain stalled, leaving the situation unresolved.

The international community has voiced growing concern: the United Nations has called for an immediate ceasefire and urged all parties to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, while Amnesty International has emphasized adherence to international humanitarian law, warning that continued fighting is likely to increase casualties and force further population displacement.
