Ceasefire in Gaza Faces Pressure as Disarmament Deadline Looms

Former President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan that led to a ceasefire in Gaza last October is now entering a critical phase.

A coalition known as the “Board of Peace,” made up of more than 20 countries, is meeting in Washington this week in an effort to turn that ceasefire into a lasting agreement and bring long-term stability to the region.

One of the central provisions of the plan calls for the armed group in Gaza to surrender its weapons. According to Israeli officials, that has not yet happened.

A senior adviser to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said publicly this week that a 60-day window has been set for diplomatic efforts to succeed. If those efforts fail, the adviser warned that Israel may move to “complete the mission.”

The developments raise questions about whether the ceasefire can hold — and what the next phase could mean for civilians in Gaza if negotiations break down.
