Will Democrats stop US military action in Iran?
House Democrats are seeking to limit President Donald Trump from taking military action in Iran without congressional approval.
The War Powers Act, enacted in 1973, requires the president to notify Congress within 48 hours of deploying military forces and limits engagements to 60–90 days without explicit congressional authorization.
Despite Democratic calls for restrictions, constitutional scholars emphasize that the president, as commander-in-chief, retains ultimate authority over U.S. military operations. Previous disputes over war powers have also arisen during the administrations of Presidents Obama, Bush, and Clinton.
